Shocking Discoveries

Campaign button for Richard Nixon, 1968
It’s really remarkable what you can find digging around your grandparents house. This button was made for the Richard Nixon campaign. The big question is: did my grandparents know what this means? If so, I’m shocked. And kind of disturbed.

I am old enough to recall this, thank you … & our perception at the time was that it was a joke by counterculturalists opposed to Nixon. The image of this appeared in underground newspapers & the like at the time. Whether it was official or not, I cannot say, but the fact that it says “Republican Slogan” at the bottom is a pretty good hint.
On the other hand, I have “George Wallace: Stand Up for America” buttons in two sizes. And they were definitely legitimate. In a sick sort of way.
